About the role:
The Director of Engineering, Enterprise owns the Enterprise Pillar from an engineering perspective.
This role is accountable for engineering outcomes across these domains: technical strategy, delivery, reliability, cost, and long-term sustainability. The Director operates at company level and ensures the Enterprise Pillar delivers business value at scale.
This is a senior leadership role with clear ownership, authority, and accountability.
Scope of Ownership:
The Director of Engineering, Enterprise:
Owns engineering outcomes for four Enterprise Pillar engineering teams that enable FYUL to engage with enterprise customers through scalable integration and embedding capabilities.
Acts as the final engineering decision-maker for the Enterprise Pillar
Shapes pillar-level architecture, platform strategy, and investment horizons
Is accountable for delivery, reliability, security, cost efficiency, and technical debt
Co-owns Enterprise strategy with Product and Commercial leaders, translating business goals into engineering capabilities.
Core responsibilities:
1. Engineering & Technical Leadership
Defines and owns the technical strategy for the Enterprise Pillar, aligned with company and product strategy
Makes final decisions on architecture, platform boundaries, build vs buy, and long-term technical bets
Ensures systems are scalable, resilient, observable, and fit for enterprise-grade use cases
Sets clear standards for engineering quality, operational readiness, and security
Owns pillar-level technical debt strategy and prioritization
2. Delivery, Execution & Operations
Owns delivery outcomes across all Enterprise teams
Ensures work is broken down, prioritised, and sequenced to deliver incremental business value
Ownership of the overall delivery process, including planning, reviews, incident handling, and retrospectives
Holds teams accountable for:
Production incidents and follow-ups
Reliability and SLOs
DevOps ownership and on-call readiness
Balances speed, quality, and sustainability at pillar level
3. Business & Product Alignment
Partners closely with Product and Commercial leadership on Enterprise initiatives
Ensures engineering decisions are explicitly tied to:
Revenue impact
Customer value
Cost and operational risk
Understands Enterprise customers, integration use cases, and platform consumers
Translates company and product strategy into clear engineering priorities for the pillar
Supports Enterprise pre-sales by validating technical feasibility, integration scope, and delivery risk for large deals
4. Organizational Leadership
Designs and evolves the engineering structure of the Enterprise Pillar
Owns:
Headcount planning and team topology
Hiring and succession planning
Performance and accountability frameworks
Develops senior engineering leaders and managers within the pillar
Delegates effectively while retaining accountability for outcomes
5. Cross-Functional Influence
Represents Enterprise engineering in company-level discussions and decisions
Works across Product, Data, Security, and Commercial functions to resolve complex, cross-domain problems
Escalates and resolves conflicts decisively, prioritising company outcomes over local optimisation
Communicates clearly and directly with executives and stakeholders
Leads technical due diligence for M&A and strategic partnerships impacting the Enterprise Pillar
What success looks like:
Enterprise systems scale reliably with business growth
Clear architectural direction with reduced churn and rework
Predictable delivery of Enterprise initiatives
Engineering cost and complexity are actively managed
Teams have clear ownership, priorities, and accountability
The Enterprise Pillar is trusted internally and externally as a platform foundation
Engineering strategy measurably contributes to Enterprise revenue growth and deal expansion
Your qualifications:
10+ years in engineering leadership roles
Proven experience leading large, multi-team engineering organizations
Strong background in platform, infrastructure, or API-driven systems, including technical proficiency
Track record of making and owning high-impact technical and organizational decisions
Ability to operate effectively with executive stakeholders
Preferably, experience in e-Commerce and Print on Demand
